AN: I wrote this, cuz I figured out why I'm having so much trouble writing -- especially on 'Mothers, Witches, and Bargains Made'. I was getting antsy to get to the "good stuff". LOL So, I wrote this. It's my first successful PWP, though I kinda cheated, and over the course of the short stories, their actually is a plot, it just isn't overly noticeable in this first story. ::smirks::

The story is COMPLETED except for minor touching up and revisions. So, it'll be posted fairly quickly. Of course, I'm bribeable for quicker work. : )~

Enjoy!

Draco glared at Zabini within the shadows of their chosen hiding place. They'd waited until Crabbe and Goyle had been sleeping soundly, snoring, before sneaking out. Draco had to admit the two of them were great in the physical protection and intimidation department, but for anything else they were pretty much a nuisance. Hence his being out here with Blaise Zabini instead.

"Wouldn't it be better just to rat him out, get him in trouble that way? Less risk." Draco said again. He really didn't like the expression on the other boy's face. Zabini was up to something -- besides finding out what Potter was up to. Unfortunately, Draco had not quite figured out what it was yet. He suspected it was something he wouldn't like, however, and that made him wary -- very wary.

Getting him to follow Potter, then turning them both in wasn't Zabini's style -- not subtle enough -- so Draco wasn't concerned about that. He stared at the boy that held far too many of his potentially embarrassing secrets to let him feel completely comfortable, wondering if he was going to be able to figure out the trap before it was too late.

Zabini shook his head, grinning. "If we do that, then you're never going to find out where he's been going every weekend, are you?"

"True," Draco replied even more wary. "Now, explain to me again why you wouldn't be going with me, if, and I stress if, I follow him?" He remembered very well how Zabini had explained it, and he had to admit that it made sense. He just wanted to make him explain it again. Maybe then he could figure out what the hell Zabini was up to. The bloke was a pretty good friend to have around, but he wasn't above his own private agenda. Of course, Draco really couldn't expect anything else, he was a Slytherin after all.

Zabini's chuckle broke him out of thoughts, and he glared at the other Slytherin.

"Someone has to be here to cover, explain why your bed is empty, Draco, in case anyone comes in . . . as you know very well. Two empty beds would not only be harder to explain, but neither of us trust anyone else enough to cover." Zabini grinned suddenly. "Unless of course you don't care if certain . . . rumors got started."

"Good point." Draco replied, then grimaced. "And I really don't think so, Zabini. I'm sorry, but my type you are so not."

Zabini laughed then, cutting off the sound abruptly with a quick worried look down the darkened corridor. "I know that. I also know who is," he said after making sure no one had heard his outburst.

"What are you talking about?" Draco demanded instantly, his voice a hissed whisper. "I don't fancy anyone at the moment."

"Ri-ight," Zabini drawled, his expression bloody 'knowing'.

"Prat," Draco huffed. He didn't know what the hell Zabini was going on about, but he wished the guy would quit. He wasn't in the mood tonight. He still had to decide how best to use what they'd discovered about Potter. Neither one of them knew how long it had been going on, only that for at least the last two Saturday nights, Potter had been sneaking out, not returning until the wee hours of the morning.

Then Potter appeared, silencing their debate. Draco watched as Potter paused before scurrying away. Draco rose to follow, determined, at least, to find out how he was getting out undetected. Zabini rose with him.

A few minutes later, they watched as Potter muttered a password and a passage neither of them had known about opened in the wall.

"Now or never," Zabini whispered, grinning.

"Sod off!" Draco snapped, equally quiet.

It suddenly hit Draco. "You know where he's going," he accused.

A seemingly frozen moment passed slowly, then Zabini nodded.

"Tell me!"

"No, I can't."

Draco's eyes narrowed suspiciously. "You made some kind of deal to keep quiet," he speculated.

Again Zabini nodded. "Sorry dude, but you know my word is my bond . . . which is why even you trust me -- to a point."

Draco continued staring at him assessively. He was right. That was part of the reason he hadn't attempted the risky memory charm on him after the last time they'd got drunk together. "Is knowing worth the risk of getting caught?" he asked finally.

Zabini grinned. "Oh, yeah! It'll shock your boots right off your feet."

"Really?" Draco drawled. What the bloody hell is Potter doing that has Zabini so impressed?

"Well, are you going or not?"

"You telling me what you know?"

"Nope"

Draco sighed. "Then, I'm going."

Zabini nodded and slipped away, heading back toward the Slytherin dorms. Draco just hoped he wasn't setting himself up for a big fall. He trusted Zabini . . . for the most part. He just couldn't quite shake a feeling of uneasiness about this. He was sure that whatever it was Zabini wasn't sharing was going to end him up in trouble. He just didn't know how much trouble.

x-x-x

"Of all the stupid, reckless ideas!" Draco muttered under his breath, as he followed Potter from what seemed a safe distance. "Just how did I let Zabini talk me into this again?" He sighed. "Oh, right. The prat already knows and won't bloody tell me."

He sighed as Potter slipped into an alley. He had to hurry and catch up. He really didn't want to lose the sneaky Gryffindor after he'd gone to all this trouble to discover the big secret. Draco rounded the corner into the alley just as his quarry muttered another password and promptly disappeared through the wall.

Damning himself for his utter stupidity, and wondering why the hell he didn't just come back another day that Potter wasn't here -- to catch him in the act of following him -- Draco headed straight for the spot he'd last seen Potter standing, mimicking the Gryffindor's words and actions.

His stomach lurched as he felt the tug, realizing suddenly that the wall had been charmed into a sort of permanent port key. He'd figured it was a secret passage, not a bloody port key. He hated port keys. Feeling a bit of panic, his thoughts flew in circles. What if he couldn't find Potter when he arrived? How would he get back? He wouldn't even know where he was! What if Potter was doing something dangerous?! Right now, he hated the prat more than he ever had before. Just like the bloody bastard not to care whose curiosity he roused, who he led into danger.

And that was all he had time for before he stumbled to a halt at his unknown destination. He swore softly trying to see around him. It was bloody well darker here than it had been in the blasted alley. He knew, at least, that he was indoors, however. It was actually nicely warm.

"Experienced or inexperienced?" boomed the loudest bass voice Draco had ever heard, sending his heart into his throat. He cursed the tiny high-pitched sound he let out in response.

"Hmmm," the voice responded. "First time here?" he asked, his voice a little quieter this time.

Draco nodded, then squared his shoulders suddenly. "Yes," he replied firmly.

"Do you know which you prefer?"

"Excuse me?" Draco asked, confused. What the hell has Potter dragged me into?

"Bloody first-timers."

Draco bristled but didn't have time to respond before the voice continued.

"Name."

"Draco," he replied, "Draco M--Zabini."

The voice chuckled. "Draco . . . Zabini, I am Marcus Warren, and I am your greeter this evening. This is a very private club and you must have a recommendation to enter. Who is your patron?"

Club? What the hell? If all Potter was doing was sneaking out to dance, Draco was going to murder him . . . after he hexed him six ways to Sunday. Now the question was, had Potter used his real name, or faked one like Draco had? Too honest, Draco decided.

"Harry Potter."

"Very well, Draco Zabini, come forward and be scanned."

"Scanned?" he yelped. This was so not good. "Um, I think I've seen enough," Draco replied, not sure exactly what this 'scan' entailed but knowing there were a lot of things he didn't want discovered. "I'll just be going, now."

The voice sighed, and suddenly a huge figure was by his side holding his arm firmly. "Surely, your patron explained the rules to you."

"Oh, of course, it slipped my mind. First time jitters and all that," Draco lied smoothly. Oh Merlin! What have I done? "My apologies, of course."

"Step forward," the near giant repeated, this time helping him along, "through this door. You'll be scanned as you pass."
